A historic moment unfolded in Digha, one of West Bengal’s major seaside tourist destinations, on Friday as the grand Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath Mahaprabhu was held there for the first time. The event was not just a religious celebration but also emerged as a symbol of collective social, cultural, and spiritual sentiment. As Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, rode the chariot amidst thousands of devotees, the entire town of Digha echoed with chants of “Jai Jagannath.” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee performed the rituals with devotion, swept the road with a golden broom as a mark of humility, and joined devotees in pulling the ropes of Mahaprabhu’s chariot.
